Improvements From Cosmetic Surgery of the Neck
Women and men in their 20s and older choose Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Quintero for neck enhancement procedures. They customize these procedures to provide one or a combination of the following improvements:
- Creating a more defined jawline
- Reducing a double chin and excess neck fat
- Tightening lax skin and neck muscles (vertical neck banding)
Additionally, you can treat sun damage with skincare regimens, chemical peels, and laser treatments.

Liposuction Under the Chin
Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Quintero perform liposuction under the chin, called submental liposuction, to remove fatty deposits that make the neck fuller than desired, resulting in the appearance of a double chin.
The excess fat can be under the skin or under the muscle. You may also want to consider KYBELLA®, a nonsurgical injectable treatment approved by the FDA specifically to reduce the fat that causes a double chin.
About the Procedure
The submental liposuction procedure takes less than an hour to complete. It is performed as an outpatient procedure with the patient under twilight or local anesthesia. The surgeon infiltrates the area with fluid, applies external ultrasonic energy, and then suctions away the fat with very thin liposuction cannulas.

What to Expect During Recovery
Recovery following submental liposuction should last only a few days. Postoperatively, a chin strap is worn for 1 week continually and an additional week at bedtime. Risks include bruising, swelling, contour irregularities, dimpling, sensation changes, temporary motor nerve weakness, and incomplete flattening of the neck due to anatomic limitations.
Results
Results from liposuction under the chin are noticeable almost immediately and are generally extremely impressive in appropriately selected patients. Younger patients and those who carry fat mostly in the neck are the best candidates for this procedure.

Platysmaplasty With Liposuction
The undesirable contour of the neck may be due to a combination of fatty deposits and looseness in the central neck muscles, called the platysma muscles. Platysmaplasty is a surgical procedure that addresses vertical neck bands caused by muscle laxity. Dr. Calobrace or Dr. Quintero combines it with liposuction to remove fatty deposits.
This procedure is generally not appropriate when a significant amount of excess skin is present. Whether you want the latest non-surgical aesthetic procedures or you desire a relaxing day spa experience, CaloSpa® Rejuvenation Center is ready to serve you.
About the Procedure Platysmaplasty with Liposuction
Platysmaplasty with liposuction takes about an hour to complete. It is performed through an incision under the chin through which the surgeon tightens the neck muscles. The surgeon performs liposuction through a small incision placed behind each ear.

What to Expect During Recovery
Postoperatively, a chin strap is worn for 1 week continually and for an additional week at bedtime. While recovery is similar to that for submental liposuction, it usually will take longer for the neck to soften and feel normal. In addition to the risks for submental liposuction, there is a risk of poor scarring, thickening, recurrence of platysmal bands, and skin irregularities/redundancy.

Neck Lift (Cervicoplasty)
The undesirable contour of the neck may be due to fatty deposits, loose neck muscles, and lax skin. Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Quintero perform neck lift surgery to address this combination of concerns that are seen most often in the aging neck. He often combines neck lift surgery with a facelift for complete facial rejuvenation.

About the Procedure
The approach for neck lift surgery generally involves a small incision under the chin and limited incisions around and behind the ears. This procedure is similar to a lower facelift, but does not address the lower facial/jowl region and involves shorter incisions. Liposuction is performed if necessary, the muscle is tightened through both the submental and lateral incisions, and skin is removed from around the ears. The surgery takes about 2 hours to complete.
What to Expect During Recovery
Neck lift recovery generally takes from a few days to a week. Postoperatively, a chin strap is worn for 5 to 7 days. The risks are similar to those for cervicoplasty, but may also include poor scarring around the ear, ear distortions, permanent nerve injuries, and skin necrosis.
