Liposuction Before & After
Keep in mind that each patient is unique, and your results may vary.
Liposuction FAQs
Is liposuction painful?
The targeted fat is infused with a tumescent solution containing lidocaine to control pain during liposuction. Most patients can manage discomfort after surgery with prescription pain medication for the first few days and then transition to over-the-counter pain medication as needed.
Will I need to wear a compression garment during recovery?
Yes. We instruct our patients to wear compression garments at all times (except while showering) for at least 2 weeks. Compression has multiple benefits after liposuction. It minimizes swelling, helps the skin heal smoothly over the new contours, and facilitates healing.
Will my results be immediate?
It takes about 6 weeks for patients to see their improved contours because of swelling in treated areas. Final results can take 3 to 6 months to attain, although experiences vary with treated areas and individual patient factors.
Is surgical liposuction better than nonsurgical body sculpting procedures?
Liposuction and nonsurgical options, like CoolSculpting® and EMSCULPT®, have advantages and disadvantages. Here is a comparison:
- Liposuction removes fat precisely. Fat is gone right away, but discomfort and swelling must dissipate after the surgery.
- CoolSculpting freezes fat cells in a general area. No anesthetic or downtime is needed. Results take 2 to 4 months to develop as the body flushes away treated fat cells. Patients may need multiple treatments for complete results.
- EMSCULPT builds muscles and reduces fat in the abdomen, arms, buttocks, and calves. There is no need for an anesthetic or downtime. Patients start with a series of 4 treatments; maintenance treatments may be needed as well.
Does fat come back after liposuction?
Once the fat cells are removed, they don’t grow back. However, the remaining fat cells can enlarge unless you follow a healthy diet and a consistent exercise routine.
Will I have scars from the surgery?
Every surgery leaves a scar, even liposuction. The scars from liposuction are tiny and placed in areas where they aren’t easily noticed, like natural creases of the body, or they are covered by clothing.
