Breast Augmentation FAQs
What’s the difference between breast augmentation and breast implants?
Breast augmentation is the name of the surgical procedure; breast implants are the medical devices used to make the breasts larger (augment them).
Can I breastfeed after getting a breast augmentation?
If you let your plastic surgeon know about your desire to breastfeed in the future, your surgery should not impact your plan. During the surgery, your plastic surgeon can take special care to avoid the milk glands and associated nerves.
Are breast implants worth it?
Breast augmentation is one of the most popular procedures in our practice. Women with realistic expectations for recovery and their results are some of our happiest patients.
My breasts are different sizes. Can breast augmentation help even them out?
Yes. The human body is often naturally asymmetrical. When it comes to the breasts, we can balance their sizes by placing an implant in the smaller breast only or by placing implants of different sizes to enlarge both breasts (one more than the other).
Will my breasts feel real?
Silicone gel implants placed below the muscle provide results that feel very much like natural breasts. Learn more in this blog post.
I had breast augmentation a month ago, and my breasts look high and tight. What can I do?
After breast implants are placed, the breast skin and chest muscle take a few months to stretch and relax — allowing the implants to “drop and settle” into a natural, attractive shape. In most cases, patience is all that is required. You can call our office or wait until your next follow-up appointment to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
How safe is breast augmentation surgery?
The safety of breast augmentation is optimized when the plastic surgeon, surgical facility, and patient are all carefully chosen. If you start by choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon, they will make sure you’re a good candidate and perform the procedure in a safe setting.
Will I need to have my implants replaced at some point?
Many patients do not need to replace their breast implants, although these medical devices are not meant to last a lifetime. If you have no concerns and are happy with your breast size and shape, you do not need to have your implants replaced.
