Renuvion®

Renuvion logoFirm, toned skin is often the goal for people from Floyds Knobs, IN, and the surrounding area who have lost weight and need to remove excess skin and fat. For patients with loose skin on their face or body, plastic surgeons Dr. M. Bradley Calobrace and Dr. Juan Quintero at CaloAesthetics® Plastic Surgery Center in Louisville and Lexington, KY, offer an effective solution: Renuvion®. This minimally invasive surgical treatment is designed to tighten skin. It can be combined with liposuction to enhance results or can be used as a standalone procedure to improve skin tone.

What Is Renuvion?

Renuvion device in surgeon's handRenuvion uses a handheld device that is inserted into the skin via small incisions. The device delivers a combination of radiofrequency (RF) energy and helium to the deep layers of tissue without damaging the outer layers of skin. The tunnels created by the device are first filled with helium then the RF energy is released, creating what is known as a “cold plasma cloud.” The plasma cloud causes the tissue to contract and the body’s natural healing process is triggered, generating new collagen in the tissue and resulting in tighter, smoother skin.

When combined with liposuction, the surgeon will insert the Renuvion device into the incisions made during surgery to tighten and firm the tissue as you heal.

About the Renuvion Procedure

A Renuvion procedure is performed in our private operating facility in Louisville under general anesthetic when Renuvion is combined with liposuction.

During one treatment, several areas of the face and body can be treated.

As your body heals from the treatment, new collagen is created, causing the skin to tighten and smooth.

Improvements from Renuvion

Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Quintero use Renuvion to lift and tighten loose, sagging skin on the face and body. Renuvion can be used to treat:

  • Sagging skin on the neck
  • Jowls and drooping jawline
  • Loose skin on the upper arms
  • Bra and back rolls
  • Stretched skin on the belly
  • Loose skin on the inner and outer thighs
  • Flanks

Renuvion is best for patients who have pockets of excess fat and mild to moderately loose or sagging skin with good skin elasticity. For patients with excess skin and fat, your surgeon may recommend combining Renuvion with a facelift, tummy tuck, arm lift, or thigh lift. During your consultation, your surgeon will perform a full assessment and recommend the best treatment for your needs.

Combining Renuvion with Liposuction

During a liposuction treatment, your surgeon uses a cannula to remove excess fat via small incisions in the skin. Depending on your skin’s elasticity, removing the fat may leave loose, stretched out skin that does not tighten after surgery. Combining Renuvion with liposuction, your surgeon can help tighten the skin so that it fits your new contours.

During the liposuction procedure, your surgeon can insert Renuvion into the pockets created by the liposuction cannula. Renuvion then causes the tissue to contract and tighten, resulting in an immediate improvement in skin laxity, with continued improvement over time, helping you achieve even better results from your liposuction procedure.

What to Expect During Recovery

Renuvion causes an immediate contraction of skin tissue, resulting in some preliminary skin tightening immediately after treatment, but it takes up to 9 months to see the full results of your Renuvion skin tightening treatment.

After a Renuvion treatment, most patients return to their normal activities within a few days. You can expect to experience some bruising and swelling for the first week. Pain and swelling are usually minimal and can be managed with an over-the-counter pain reliever. The sutures are usually removed within 4 to 7 days after treatment, and you may need to wear a compression garment for up to 6 weeks to minimize swelling and optimize results.

When Renuvion is combined with liposuction, your surgeon will use a compression garment and foam bandages to help minimize swelling and speed healing. Healing time varies by patient, but most patients are able to return to work after a few days and fully healed after about 6 weeks.
