Butt Augmentation 101

Butt Augmentation 101

Among Instagram models, reality stars, and social media influencers, butts are in, especially when accented by a small waist. While some people are simply genetically blessed with enviable curves, many turn to surgical intervention to help. But butt augmentation isn’t simply a catchall technique. Instead, prospective butt augmentation patients have several different options to help them sculpt their dream derrieres. Let’s explore the pros and cons of the most popular choices to help you decide what’s most likely to give you the body you want.

Butt Lift

Often confused with its more bodacious cousin, the Brazilian butt lift, traditional butt lift surgery doesn’t offer any sort of augmentation at all. Instead, it does exactly what its name implies. Butt lift surgery is typically recommended for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and are left with sagging skin and buttocks that droop or appear “deflated.” Butt lift surgery removes excess, empty skin and tightens the remaining skin to create a taut, lifted appearance. Butt lift does not add volume to the buttocks. It’s often performed along with a thigh lift for more complete results.

Butt Implants

Like other body implants, including breast implants, butt implants are made with silicone. Soft and pliable, butt implants mimic the feel of natural tissue. Like breast implants, buttock implants are available in a variety of sizes and shapes to allow each patient a certain degree of customization. However, shaping of the buttocks is limited with this approach. At CaloAesthetics, we do not offer buttock implants. We’ve found that they don’t provide our patients with the best possible results. They also come with certain associated complications, such as implant movement.

Brazilian Butt Lift

Called BBL for short, the Brazilian butt lift is our Louisville patients’ favorite option for enhancing the buttocks. This is because it comes with 3 distinct advantages: augmenting the size of the buttocks, enhancing the shape of the buttocks, and reducing unwanted fat elsewhere in the body. This brilliant technique uses your own “donor fat,” which is typically taken from an area such as the abdomen.

Careful placement of your donor fat can add volume and beautiful shape to the buttocks. Because the procedure uses your own fat, there’s no risk of “rejection.” This approach is also appealing because it essentially lets you decide where you want your fat to go, which is an advantage that Mother Nature doesn’t typically grant on her own. BBL also allows your surgeon maximum control when shaping your new buttocks, creating curves and contours that are as subtle or as head-turning as you want (with some limitations, of course).
